THE LUCKY OYSTER

Performed by the 7pm Senior Theatre Group

Recorded via Zoom

Autumn 2020

During the autumn term in 2020, we were extremely lucky to have worked with London-based emerging playwright Dan Berridge. Dan wrote an original short play for both our Senior groups, which they performed and recorded via Zoom. Dan dialled into our Seniors Zoom call for a "Meet and Greet" and had a Q&A with the young people.

Dan commented:
"2020  was a challenge for us all and more so than ever the arts are critical for young people to be able to connect, have space to be creative and have fun. When I heard about this project I jumped at the opportunity to share ideas of community and artistic expression in a time where young people need it the most. I cannot wait to see what the Senior group do with the text”.

You can see the finished work by clicking on the link below.  The 6pm Senior groups' work is in the next box.

December 2019, live public performances at Stretford Public Hall

SEUSSICAL JNR.

Performed by all of Stretford Children's Theatre

December 2019

Live performances at Stretford Public Hall

For the whole of the autumn 2019 term, we rehearsed for our first full-scale public performance from the whole of Stretford Children's Theatre (juniors & seniors groups).  We presented 3 public performances to sell-out audiences.  All the children and young people had an excellent experience, with many local people volunteering to create the costumes, set, hair and make-up, chaperoning, and front of house duties including box office, selling programmes and refreshments.  Please click the Video button below to see a recording of the production.

Please see the Gallery for images of this and other productions.

NATIONAL CITIZEN'S SERVICE Project 2018

Summer 2018

NCS Salford sent a team to raise awareness and money for our group during the school summer holidays. The team assigned to this project decided to plan and hold a coffee morning in a local church hall and raised £300 which they then used to purchase a wonderful SLR camera for our groups to use. Rosarie [our then Senior Group facilitator] went meet the NCS group to talk to them about what we do and what we might need. Thank you NCS! It is a wonderful camera that I'm sure will get lots of use throughout the years.

NATIONAL CITIZEN'S SERVICE Project 2017

Summer 2017

We were approached by Salford Foundation to see if we could work with them on an NCS project over the summer with a group of approx. 20 teenagers. We met with the group and gave them a brief which was to promote the group across Stretford and Manchester and help us to get some more attendees in the older group. They then asked loads of really good questions about the group and how it runs and used these to formulate a plan for the next few days.

The group decided that they would design a new leaflet that would appeal to their age group and they would carry out a flashmob event in Manchester city centre and Stretford town centre. They applied for some money in order to achieve this from their project organizers and were successful and were able to buy a large speaker so they could play their music and they could afford to get their leaflets printed professionally. They then set about designing the leaflet, and they designed a draft logo for the Youth Section too.  The next day they set off into town and gave out the leaflets and did their flashmob - which you can see an extract of below. After a few hours in Manchester they returned to Stretford and continued giving out leaflets and did another flashmob in Stretford Mall.

We are very grateful to everyone who was involved in this project - it was great exposure for the group and fun to work with the kids in this high pressure project over a few days.
